The Ministry of Ayush, in collaboration with the WHO, is working on standardizing the terminology related to diseases and treatments in traditional Indian systems such as Ayurveda, Unani, and Siddha. This initiative aims to address the challenge where doctors in these systems often use their own naming conventions, making it difficult for patients to seek follow-up care from different practitioners. Standardized terminology will facilitate consistent prescription writing and enhance patient information transfer between doctors. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hopes that doctors in these traditional systems will adopt the new codified system, contributing to improved research, global acceptance, and benefits like medical insurance coverage for Ayush treatments. The WHO's inclusion of Ayurveda, Siddha, and Unani data in the ICD-11 classification signals increased credibility and potential growth in medical value travel for Ayush therapies. The groundwork for this standardization began in 2017 with the NAMASTE portal, and ongoing efforts are expected to progress further.

The Central government of India has approved a new three-drug treatment regimen for leprosy patients as part of the National Leprosy Eradication Programme. This regimen, consisting of dapsone, rifampicin, and clofazimine, aims to halt leprosy transmission in India by 2027. The new treatment will replace the current two-drug regimen from April 1, 2025, for all PB leprosy patients. The goal is to eradicate leprosy in India three years ahead of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals target. Leprosy, caused by Mycobacterium leprae bacteria, affects the skin and nerves, and the new regimen is a crucial step in aligning with global treatment guidelines for better efficacy and coverage.

Europe reported a significant surge in measles cases in 2023, with over 30,000 cases, marking a 30-fold increase compared to 2022. The rise in infections, along with nearly 21,000 measles-related hospitalizations and 5 deaths, points to a troubling reversal in preventable infectious diseases. COVID-19 pandemic disruptions have contributed to lower measles immunization coverage, with around 1.8 million infants in the WHO Europe region missing scheduled vaccine doses. The drop in vaccination rates has compromised herd immunity, with measles spreading rapidly among unprotected individuals, posing a threat to the WHO's goal of eliminating the disease globally by 2030. Urgent and coordinated action, including accelerating vaccination campaigns and enhancing disease surveillance systems, is crucial to curtail the transmission of measles in Europe.
